To Upgrade or Not

To Upgrade or Not?

To upgrade or not? That is the probe. At slightest, because the statement of the new Athlon 64 FX-57, that is the probe I have been brooding. Even however the FX-55, (which I am presently operation), was everything I had hoped it would be, is the new FX-57 that greatly better? Well let’s take a look.

The Athlon 64 FX-57 has an enlarged dial rate of 200 MHz fetching it to 2.8 GHz, up from the 2.6 GHz found in the FX-55. AMD didn’t pause there however, they added a few extras to mend performance.

The crumb’s heart is actually based on a revised K8 heart system named San Diego (1 MB L2 reserve), which fetch’s the volume of the crumb’s die down to 90 nm from 130 nm. this is made workable by house the crumb on AMD’s hottest SOI (Silicon and Insulator) technology.

The FX-57 has an mendd recall controller, making it more compliant in language of allowing you to use different volume DIMM’s on the same means.

So is the FX-57 express? It’s screaming express, but is it an enough of an mendment to warrent an upgrade? Well that depends a little on you. If you have to have the hottest and peak then this is the mainframe for you.

With a $1000+ value tag, I would be disposed to say that the Athlon 64 FX-57 is a little too valuey for most mainstream users or enthusiasts (myself included). Especially if you just dropped $800-$900 on an FX-55 just six months ago like I did.

One other thing to believe is the potential objective of mainframes. With an trade swing to dual-heart mainframes, such as the Athlon 64 X2, the Athlon 64 FX-57 may be AMD’s last installment in the lone heart mainframe souk.

Now having said that, the FX-57 still out-performs (in language of betting) even the expressest dual-heart mainframe such as the Athlon 64 X2 4800+. This is mostly due to the detail that most playoffs are not built to take gain of a dual-heart mainframe, not yet besides.

So for the time being, the FX-57 will stay the expressest betting mainframe on the souk.
